A benefit event for El Centro De La Raza"s
The José Martí Child Development Center.

"Mommy, Daddy" Micah Flora-Glickman, Age 2

Opening Night

Families having fun together
Hungry Creatives
This benefit show highlights artwork by the children of The José Martí Child Development Center. On opening night, attendees enjoyed live music and poetry by the children, youth mariachi group performance, poetry readings by community members, and slide shows of the children participating in various marches.
The struggle for social justice is an integral part of creating a healthy, loving community in which children can flourish and grow. These are living values that are instilled as part of the curriculum at the José Martí Center. Creating art is a part of the expression of that process. In addition to exhibiting their artwork, the children performed songs and poetry that they have learned as students. This medium is used as a interactive tool to meet the social need of the children, the family and the community.
The José Martí Center utilizes The Creative Curriculum, which is a learn-by-play process. While the children are having fun creating art, singing songs and memorizing poetry they are open to the magic of the learning process. This show, FAMILY & SOCIAL JUSTICE, will give you a glimpse of the new and innovative ways in which these children are being taught in a bilingual Spanish/English program.
